Contact Winnie Johnston if you would like more information about serving as a camp staff member. Volunteers are needed to serve as cook, health officer, lifeguard, camp pastor, and cabin counselor. To serve as a camp staff member you must become a registered children and youth worker in Community of Christ, pass criminal and child abuse registry clearances, and complete staff training.

Senior high camp staff must be 21 years or older. Junior high camp staff must be at least two years older than the oldest camper. Junior camp staff must be at 15 years or older.

Job Posting for Part-Time Certified Aquatic Supervisors (Lifeguards)

The Michigan Mission Center is accepting applications for certified aquatic supervisors (lifeguards) for the 2020 camping season. Employment will be needed for parts of June and July at Blue Water Campground, Park of the Pines, and Sanford Campground. These are part-time, seasonal positions requiring about 10-30 hours of work per week for about four weeks. Certified aquatic supervisors (lifeguards) will be paid $10 per hour for on duty time. Housing and meals will be provided on site at the campground if desired.

The certified aquatic supervisor (lifeguard) shall be responsible for the enforcement of safety rules and procedures governing all aquatic activities during camps. This adult shall be present during all aquatic activity. The certified aquatic supervisor will be responsible for training and supervising the aquatic observers needed for each aquatic activity. This position will report to the director of each camp when in session and be supervised by the Michigan Mission Center Camping Coordinator.
A successful applicant will be subject to a criminal and child protective services background check, pursuant to Michigan law regarding camp licensing, and must be a Registered Child and Youth Worker for Community of Christ or be willing to become one. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and at least 18 years of age or older. Michigan Mission Center camps are operated by Community of Christ, a religious organization.

Required Qualification:
-Certification as a lifeguard by the American Red Cross, YMCA, Boy Scouts of America, or other nationally recognized lifeguard training program as approved.

Desired Qualifications:
-Ability to interact positively with campers and staff
-Familiarity with camping programs for youth and adults
-Ability to supervise volunteers
